In January 2014 it came to the news that there were Beavers living on the River Otter going through the bottom of our fields.  Tom Buckley a close family friend came to us in the summer of 2013 and said to us that he thought something strange was going on as if someone was hacking at the trees with an Axe.  After closer inspection and night cameras it became clear that we had some new friends.  We were also fascinated with our new arrivals and the news soon spread hitting the media in the January of 2014.

Beavers have been non-existent from Britain for nearly 500 years after being hunted to extinction during the reign of Henry VIII in the 16th century.

No one is exactly sure where the Beavers have come from but they have been strongly welcomed by us at Knightstone and the community of Ottery St Mary.

January 28th 2015 Devon’s Beavers have been granted permission to stay on the River Otter for a five year trial.  We will be doing Beaver tours from the tent so watch this space!!
